Joe is a graduate from Stony Brook University’s School of Health Technology and Management with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. A classically trained dancer, he holds a B.F.A in dance performance from the prestigious Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tx.
Upon graduation from SMU, Joe began working as a professional dancer, having the pleasure of working with over a dozen ballet and modern dance companies. In his dance career he was fortunate to dance the works of legendary choreographers such as George Balanchine, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, Agnes De Mille, Bruce Wood, Margie Gillis, Paul Mejia, Bob Fosse and others.
In his mid twenties, a dance related back injury led Joe down the journey of healing and repairing his body. This process ignited a deep yearning to better understand the body, injury, physical rehabilitation and prevention. Shortly thereafter, Joe returned home to Long Island and began the doctoral program at Stony Brook University. Upon graduation, Joe combined his two strongest passions and began working at Performing Arts Physical Therapy, studying and training with Sean Gallagher, a leading practitioner in the field of dance medicine and performing arts specialization.
Joe's broadway credits as a PT include: Fiddler on the Roof, American Psycho, Pippin, Kinky Boots, On Your Feet, Finding Neverland, Mamma Mia, First Date, Hand to God, and many other musicals, plays and theatrical events in and around NYC. In addition to working on Broadway, Joe is a PT for dancers and students with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, American Ballet Theater and the World Dance Movement.
In 2015 Joe started yet another new journey and launched his own unique private practice. A boutique style concierge PT experience specializing in dance medicine and the performing arts, restorative pilates, exercise instruction and patient education.
Joe is a frequent guest teacher and lecturer. He educates dancers, dance teachers, PT's and PT students on topics ranging from dance medicine, injury prevention, self care/maintenance, coping strategies and Pilates for rehabilitation. He holds certifications in, personal training, yoga, group exercise and thai yoga massage.
Joe is a member of Alpha Eta, the national honor society for the Allied Health Professions. He is the 2012 recipient of Stony Brook University's award for General Excellence in Physical Therapy and the Excellence in Clinical Education award. He is featured in the 2016 Tony Awards Playbill article "Life Behind the Curtain - The Show Couldn't Go On Without Them, the stories of 21 people who make broadway happen."
